  Dr. Spomenka Jercinovic is spot on with her diagnoses for our son. Her 'experience' shows through when she asked just a few questions...
  
  They seemed a little interesting at first, but yes indeed he coughs during his sleep, yes he frequently lays on his right side during the day, yes he sleeps with his mouth open...
  
  While we didn't have a clue, and he didn't have a temperature, Dr Spomenka on the other hand could tell right away that he had an ear infection in his right ear (hence lying on his right to drain the fluid), was probably allergic to milk (hence the gerd and coughing at night), and may have sinus problems due to his breathing through his mouth while sleeping.
  
  All of these intuitions were confirmed to be true with follow up tests. A little nose spray, cutting out milk, and guess what - he no longer woke up at night AND my wife and I finally got a good night's sleep!
  
  Before seeing her, we we're wondering if we should just follow the book advice of the "cry it out" method, but thankfully we had a great doctor that was able to tell us he was actually having health issues and was hurting. We're grateful her experience and correct diagnoses were able to help our son and soothe his hurting.
  
  We are also grateful for the referral later on for him to see a specialist to see if he needed tubes in his ears. It's very scary sometimes when you hear he needs to be under anesthesia or take certain medicine, but when the very next day after surgery he starts to walk and talk rather than his usual crawling and grunts, we realized Dr. Spomenka made the right call.
  
  It's hard to initially trust someone when it comes to your little one, but it's our experience over and over again for the past two years that Dr Spomenka makes the right calls, and all we know is that our son no longer hurts and my wife and I can therefore feel good about things AND GET A LITTLE REST OURSELVES :)
